THE CARL LaROCK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Veterans of Foreign Wars is a Congressional Chartered Veteran and Community Service Organization. The object of our organization is to provide assistance to our nation’s Veterans and our Community. Our eligible members are those men and women who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States during times of conflict.
As a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II, Comrade Carl LaRock, born in 1909, became a Life Member of Old Settlers VFW Post 4659 in the Village of Disco, Michigan, now a part of Shelby Township.
At the time of his death, Comrade LaRock willed a portion of his estate to VFW Post 4659 to be used at our discretion. By vote of the membership, those funds have been placed in a special Scholarship Fund to be titled "The Carl LaRock Scholarship”. A minimum amount of $1,000.00 will be awarded to each of our two winners. We feel that we could find no more fitting tribute to our departed comrade. Through these scholarship awards, Carl LaRock lives on to assist deserving students in furthering their education.
We at Old Settlers Post 4659 ask that all interested parties (please refer to requirement sheet) contact Bill Dobbie, at VFW Post 4659, 8311 Wilson Dr. Shelby Twp., Michigan 48316, Post Phone (586)-781-9109 or e-mail Bill Dobbie, firstname.lastname@example.org (please put "LaRock Scholarship” in subject line) or cell 586-322-3304.
