The Carl F. LaRock Memorial Scholarship

The Veterans of Foreign Wars is a Congressional Chartered Veteran and Community Service Organization. The object of our organization is to provide assistance to our nation’s Veterans and our Community. Our eligible members are men and women who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States during times of conflict.

Private First Class Carl F. LaRock (1909 - 1994) served in the U.S. Army during World War II.  He was a Life Member of Old Settlers VFW Post 4659 in the Village of Disco, now a part of Shelby Township, Michigan.  When he passed away, Comrade LaRock willed a large portion of his estate to VFW Post 4659 to be used at our discretion. By vote of the membership, those funds were placed in a special Scholarship Fund to be titled "The Carl F. LaRock Memorial Scholarship”. $1,000 is awarded to up to 3 randomly selected winners each school year. We feel there is no more fitting tribute to our departed comrade. Through these scholarship awards, Carl LaRock lives on to assist deserving students in furthering their education.

We at Old Settlers Post 4659 ask that all interested and eligible parties to leave a message at the post for Lisa Love (586)-781-9109 or send her an e-mail at lisalove.4659@gmail.com
